The Book of Job

May Letter 2026

The book of Job creates strong reactions in people. Many people love the book of Job and even claim it as their favorite book of Scripture, while others avoid it as long, depressing, and uncomfortable. Job deals with the question of suffering. Why does suffering come to the righteous? As we study Job, we will see the arguments of four men who have seen Job’s suffering firsthand. Their shock and attempts at explaining what has happened will give us a lot to reflect on. Their urgency to get Job to repent will give us an example of applying a truth to the wrong situation. Job wasn’t suffering because he needed to repent, he suffered precisely because he was blameless. Ultimately, God will interrupt Job’s friends and answer for Himself. Job’s long and painful waiting for God will be ended, and he will have to stand with all that he has said and done. It is amazing how God has chosen to speak through His Word to people throughout time. My prayer is that He will use your study through the book of Job this year to speak into your life; to challenge any notions that need to be challenged and comfort any heartbreaks that still need Him. Remember that there is nothing in your life that God does not know, and nothing that He cannot fix with His perfect wisdom. When we truly seek Him and submit our lives to Him, we are blessed.
