The Bible claims to be God’s Word. God does not lie, nor does He work in deceit. The LORD speaks only in truth. If we truly believe that, then we should treat the Bible very differently than an ordinary book. God is speaking spiritual truths to us through His Word that we desperately need to hear and heed. Through the history, prophecies, songs, and stories He has woven together for our benefit.
As humans, sin has defeated us. We do not really know how to hear from the God who has no sin and hates it. But when we come to Jesus Christ, the LORD not only forgives us from our sin but also removes its power over us. So, when we pray before we read the Bible, God’s Holy Spirit helps us to understand what He is saying. But so many times, we miss God because we are not really listening to the LORD.
The Bible tells us about the life of David, and it is easy for us to miss what the LORD is trying to communicate. However, the Holy Spirit helps us by opening our spirits to hear Him. The story of David is a great example of that.
David is emerging in power at the time Saul is reigning as Israel’s king. This is not surprising, but what is surprising is that God already had a king in place. Why would the LORD choose two men anointed as king to exist at the same time? Let’s find out.
As we read this month, let’s listen to how God overcomes evil through His Holy Spirit. King David is by no means perfect, but he understands the heart of God, and he listens to Him. May we hear Him and let His Holy Spirt speak to our spirit as we read.
