The Sinner’s Prayer

For those sincerely seeking the Lord.

Sin is the ongoing problem of humanity. Sin gets us involved in wrong and painful and sometimes even terrible things. We are all sinners––every single one of us (Romans 3:10,23). But Jesus Christ came to take our sins away. We must admit that we are sinners and confess our sin to Him. When we do that, God is with us. How come?

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

Eternal life is not a work or something you have to obtain on your own merit. Eternal life is a free gift from the God who created you (Ephesians 2:8-9). All God asks of us is simple: To be transformed by His divine power. So, how do you become transformed? You must be born again.

We are all called to believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and was born in the flesh through the virgin Mary. Jesus lived among us for about 33 years. He came to die for our sins. He was convicted (though he did nothing wrong) and crucified, died on the cross and miraculously rose from the dead fully to life, and ascended to heaven in the flesh. Jesus Christ is the one we confess our sins to. We ask for His forgiveness.

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. (Romans 10:8-10)

Life is a confession of Christ. Jesus Christ is who He said He is, fully man and fully God. When we confess our sins to Him, He changes our life forever. That is the testimony of how we have changed to follow the LORD Jesus Christ.

For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

God is God whether we like it or not. He is Lord whether you like it or not (Romans 14:11). All God asks of us is to put our pride aside and acknowledge that He is Lord over our lives. You acknowledge God is Lord by following Jesus Christ with your whole life.

God has called you to be a follower of Christ. Pray with me:

Lord Jesus Christ, I’m a sinner, forgive me and help me! I need you to take hold of me. Transform me. You are Lord of my life.

Now, by the power of Jesus Christ, I encourage you to go to your local church and be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 2:38-41).

May God bless you and keep you!
