The Book of Job shows the unpopular truths of life. The reality of evil having its way is real. We often tend to cast blame on others, but Job cast evil’s blame to God. This is hard. God is testing Job by letting evil run its course, but he does not know it. Yet at the end of Job’s book we see God revealing His omnipotence to Job, asking him over one hundred questions impossible for Job to answer. And they were good and real questions designed to help all of us see the truths about how little we actually know.
As a result of Job’s book, we learn that evil has been set loose in our world by Satan and through our own inclinations toward sin. We need to understand that we are not living in a world that owes us anything. In fact, our sin-filled world reaps more than it sows. But Jesus Christ has come to give His life for the sins of the world. He paid the cost of sin with His perfect, sinless life and rose from the dead to give us eternal life. Today, we each have the opportunity to invite the LORD into our life and take our sins away. I suggest we do that!
Following Job, the Psalms help us learn and understand who God is and what it means to give our lives to Him. I don’t think it is a coincidence that the Bible is about one-third music. The is no better way to keep our minds tuned into what God is doing than by reading His Word daily, and the Psalms are a wonderful way to do just that.
