It seems to me that one of the most troubling aspects of life is change. There are different kinds of change, of course, but think about the first change in your life that really affected you. Sometimes those changes are good, and sometimes they are not so good. Usually, it’s the not so good change that sticks with you.
We live in a world full of change, especially right now! One journalist said it this way, “The world is on fire!” Our stress levels are spiking, our monetary values are dropping, our way of life is dissolving, our security is shaking—all of this is change. Our lives seem to be turning upside down, and it’s only turning faster and faster. But God can take any change, no matter how big or fast, and make it good. In fact, He will.
We need to realize that God has put us on this planet—in this current time—for a divine reason. You are not here by accident. We are witnessing the transforming and life-changing power of God, during a time of unprecedented human change.
When I was young, my mother always taught my sister Robin and I that trusting God in our life, no matter what changed in it, was one of the most important virtues we should hold. I remember John F. Kennedy once said, “Everything changes but change itself.” While this sounds very deep and thoughtful, it makes change into something that it is not. Change is not a thing; it is a transition between things. There is only one thing in life that never changes: God! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
People who know the LORD are encouraged in His Word not to be afraid. As we read the last chapters of the three remaining Gospels and the first several chapters of Acts, remember this: God will not, nor will He ever, change. The LORD is all-powerful and continues to change people as they come to Him and commit their lives to follow the LORD.
Rest in the LORD, trust in God—He will protect and keep you, as you give Him your life.
