As we begin the Bible anew this year, I’m struck with how much of our understanding of the world is influenced be how we see its beginning. Most people in the West have been trained to forget that God had anything to do with the beginning, while the Bible presents Him clearly as the creator of all things. Genesis 1 emphasizes that the power of God brought about the universe: The sun, moon, and stars, the Earth and everything on it owes itself to God. His miracle working power is the ultimate creative force.
We too owe our creation to God. In His ultimate wisdom He created mankind as a complimentary pair. Male and female together bear God’s image, they were not meant for some cosmic competition but for a beautiful display of relationship and companionship. They also originally walked with God, conversed with Him, and were required to obey Him as Lord. Their one rule, of course, was to not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. What a devastating day when they chose to reject God’s law. A day whose effects would ripple on through every generation of their children. Now mankind was sinful.
The Bible also teaches us that at just the right time, God Himself paid the cost for sin. Jesus Christ came to the earth as a sort of second Adam. Instead of rebelling against God, Christ would follow Him, and lay down His life for His brethren. Jesus opened salvation up to all of humanity, His righteousness can be ours if we will but follow Him.
The reason why there is so much evil in the world is explained in the Bible. The reason why Christians have so much hope and joy in this evil world is also explained in the Bible. Here at Bible Discovery, we aim to lead you through the Scriptures beginning to end so that you can see for yourself God’s amazing story of redemption. Reading the Bible will do much for your heart, soul, and mind. It is our prayer that you will grow in your faith this year, that if you haven’t already, you would decide to follow Jesus Christ, and that as you turn the pages of God’s Word, you would be able to see Him as Creator, rule-maker, and self-sacrificial redeemer. God is our great Father, and He has so much for you to discover.
