Our Time is Different —

The time in which we live is unique. Not because we have never gone through difficulty before, but because God is moving in an unusual way right now. I reside just outside of Toronto in Canada, where the largest gay pride parade in North America is held. Believe it or not, the city was once called Toronto the Good because of its Christian values and strict moral codes of conduct. For instance, stores would not open on Sunday because it was the Lord’s Day.

The time in which we live now is very different than it has been in the past. God says through His Biblical prophets that He will take action against those who rebel against His commands. Remember that the commands of God are to help us and keep us from destroying ourselves through sin. They are to keep us holy. This is one of the reasons the Bible exists, not to simply tell us what we cannot do but to let us know when our decisions will destroy our future.

The past few years we have also seen a change in climate. Those who worship the “gods of climate change” do not see that God us trying to get our attention, although the Bible says, over and over again, that God will remind us of who He is in our disobedience. The prophets have clearly stated over and over again, too, that God will deal with the sin on our planet, and in our lives. God uses hurricanes, earthquakes, and tornados, to get our attention.

The opportunity we now have is to come to Jesus Christ, ask forgiveness for our sins, and make Him LORD of our life. The prophet Jeremiah seems to highlight the deep darkness of rejecting God’s provision and plan. But if we pay close attention, we will also hear the good news of God’s provision in the midst of horrible circumstances. Read these passages carefully. The LORD is speaking to us.
