In Hebrew, wisdom means, “to be prudent, to be circumspect, to have understanding”. Israel’s contribution to wisdom literature is to place all wisdom in the context of faith in the LORD. What is interesting about biblical wisdom is that it requires us to think about wisdom in a spiritual.
The book of Proverbs is a wonderful book and worthy of our consideration and meditation. This book speaks to problems that are not only ancient but modern because it is about human nature and God’s ways–––we all are spiritual in nature. So, we are challenged to meditate on what it means to “know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; To give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion” (Proverbs 1:2-4).
God desires us to consistently learn what He has said in His Word so that we can apply it in our lives and continue to grow. Most people gleam wisdom from human platitudes, but God is the one who created us. We are called to learn about God’s wisdom, how He thinks, so we can change and grow in His wisdom for our lives.
