The problem with discerning truth today is not that we have the ability make decisions about what truth is, but that we are limited in discovering the truth from the sources we have. The Bible is available to everyone in the Western world. If we want to read it and judge it for truth we can. But there are several nations who do not allow the Bible within their borders. Yet, some choose never to read the Bible, claiming they do not have enough time. That is a problem. When we consistently make excuses that we have no time for God’s Word, I would submit that we are spending our time unwisely.
This month we explore the twelve Minor Prophets or what the Jews call The Book of the Twelve. They speak honestly and openly about the struggle with God and His people and what God plans to do about it. At the end of this month, we will begin to read God’s plan to save Israel, and the world for that matter, by bringing to the world His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, Immanuel, God with us.
We are living in difficult times; the economy is tough, the world seems as if it is going crazy, yet God has told us that this is all to be expected (Matthew 24-25). It is a fascinating read as we explore what in the world is really happening and learn that it is God who holds our hand and shelters us during difficult times.
Now more than ever I encourage you to spend time reading, learning, and applying the Bible every day in your life!
