In Christ We Trust

May Letter 2025

There is a brilliant motto on the US dollar: “In God We Trust.” Notice that it is not ‘in money we trust’, or ‘in banks’, or ‘in the US President’––it is God. Originally used during the Civil War, it means that the political, social, and economic prosperity of the United States rests completely in God’s invisible hands. On the one hand, this is very comforting because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, but it is also very quickly forgotten when we face insecurity in our finances. We need to keep in mind that the LORD’s economy is never dictated by any leader, no matter how important, no matter how dire. God will take care of His people who trust in Him, despite their circumstances. That is exactly what King Hezekiah learned against the Assyrian Empire who threatened his and Jerusalem’s very existence. Hezekiah was challenged but he remembered that it was in God he trusted.

The idea of providing for our family and loved ones, let alone ourselves, is reserved not for us but for God. If we are Christian, we consistently believe that God is our daily source of and for all things, even our finances; and we remember that by remaining faithful to God, and praising His name, through fear and financial losses.

This month we read about some dangerous, albeit interesting times in ancient Israel and Judah. Their disobedience and unfaithfulness to God nearly led them to complete annihilation. They lost everything. But when they remembered that God was their source, for life and for living, He restored them

It is a wonderful hope we have: When we are faithless, He remains faithful––for God cannot deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13).

In Christ we trust! Forever and always. Amen.
